HexVets & Magic Pets[3] (formerly known as HexVet[1]) is an upcoming CG and 2D-hybrid preschool adventure series developed by Nicole Dubuc for Nickelodeon. It is based on the 2020 book series of the same name written by Sam Davies. The series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios and Boom! Studios, being distributed by Viacom International, Inc.[1] It is currently set to air on Nickelodeon in 2026.[2]
Plot
Kid witches Annette and Clarion are thrilled to become HexVet apprentices to the kind, clever, and sometimes cheeky Dr. Talon. At her clinic, they learn how to heal and care for magical creatures while picking up some important social-emotional lessons themselves. Annette and Clarion are unlikely friends that couldn’t be more different - she’s all drive and he leads with his heart - but through their comical adventures, they find they’re stronger together. Part magical procedural, part creature comedy, and all heart, HEXVETS & MAGIC PETS is a series about persisting after failure, celebrating differences, and bringing all the magic you can into the world.[4]

Development
On March 24, 2022, it was announced that Nicole Dubuc’s preschool series HexVet had been greenlit for Nickelodeon with a 20-episode order. Dubuc developed the series from Sam Davies' 2020 book series of the same name published by Boom! Studios through their KaBoom! imprint. Dubuc also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Frank Molieri serves as co-executive producer and Kendall Michele Haney as story editor. The series is also executive produced by Stephen Christy and Ross Richie, with Mette Norkjaer serving as co-producer for Boom! Studios. Production of HexVet for Nickelodeon Animation Studios is overseen by Eryk Casemiro, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Animation Studios, Global Series Content. Kate Crownover serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.[1] Molieri Animation handles the animation for the series.[5]
On August 9, 2023, Nickelodeon changed the name of the upcoming animated preschool series, HexVet. According to recent filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Nickelodeon has renamed HexVet as HexVets and Magic Pets. “The vibrant world of HexVet gives our creative team an incredible opportunity to translate the enchantment of the series into products across multiple categories,” said Pam Kaufman, President, Paramount Consumer Products. “We strategically approach each new IP in a unique way and look forward to developing items that highlight the show’s core themes of magic, teamwork and compassion for animals, allowing kids to continue their adventures with Nan and Clarion.” A premiere date for HexVets and Magic Pets is still to be announced, however, when the series was first announced, Nickelodeon planned to launch HexVets and Magic Pets in the U.S. in 2023, followed by a international launch.[3]
On May 22, 2024, production on the first season wrapped.[6][3]
Broadcast
The 20-episode first season of HexVets & Magic Pets will air on Nickelodeon in 2026.[2][7]
